Why IJAYA is not fit to be installed as the Yeye Oba of Makun Sagamu

Why IJAYA is not fit to be installed as the Yeye Oba of Makun Sagamu

I

t has been brought to our notice that the member representing Remo Federal Constituency at the green chamber, Otunba Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga popularly known as Ijaya is making frantic effort to ensure her emergence as the Yeye Oba of Makun kingdom.  This, she has been pursuing in conjunction with some individuals who seems to have forgotten the credentials for the said title or just acting out of sheer ignorance.

Ordinarily, it should be of nobody's concern that a particular fellow is being tipped or picked to be conferred a chieftaincy title. But, one can equally not look away from the situation surrounding such decision especially when it has to do with political office holders who have not derogated from their primary responsibilities.

Hon. Adewunmi Onanuga should be more concerned with the aim of delivering the dividends of democracy to her people rather than eyeing a chieftaincy title. On all fronts, she has failed the electorates and no single major accomplishment has been traced to her since the good people of Remo voted her into the green chamber. A responsible representative would occupy herself more with the worries of her people which ofcourse does not include clamouring for a community title.

To the best of our knowledge, chieftaincy titles are given to eligible people who at one point or the other, have done remarkable things on their immediate environment.  We are aware that the position (Yeye Oba of Makun) is usually occupied by women of honour and valour with towering experience. Hon. Ijaya does not belong to this category. One who has not been able to fulfill at least, one of her promises to her constituents should not be saddled with such a great task. It is evident that if she occupies the position, she will not only fail herself, but also the entire community.

One of the norms attached to the position of Yeye Oba is that the King (Ewusi of Makun) would accord maximum respect to her. This is why most times, it is one who is ripe in age that is considered for the position because it places the Ewusi in the place of a son to the Yeye Oba.  If the Ewusi of Makun has not been compromised and if he is not attempting to capsize the boat of normalcy in our culture, he should know that for this reason alone, Ijaya is not in the class of those who should be considered for the highly exalted position because he (Ewusi) is old enough to be Ijaya's father.

In view of this, we are calling on the concerned persons who are in charge of the conferment to review her selection with immediate alacrity and replace her with a more committed, loyal, honest, humble and transparent fellow. Failure to do so may spell doom for the community as majority speak ill of her ineptitude.
